Motorola accidentally confirms Droid Maxx 2 on Google Play Store

Unknown

Motorola and Verizon have a launch event coming up in a couple weeks, when the companies intend to introduce the next additions to the Droid family of smartphones. Right now, all indications point to the debut of two handsets, the Droid Maxx 2 and Droid Turbo 2. While we’ve been able to piece together quite a bit of info on both of these handsets, the Droid Maxx 2 is notable for just how poorly kept a secret the phone’s been: beyond the usual assortment of unofficial leaks, we’ve seen Google itself confirm not just the phone’s name, but that it will effectively be the US version of the Moto X Play. Now Motorola itself is jumping the gun on confirming the existence of the Droid Maxx 2, mentioning the phone in a newly published app.
Motorola just added its stock email client to the Google Play Store, and like any app featured there, it dressed up the listing with an array of screenshots. While the first few were perfectly innocuous, the two you see up top make direct reference to the still-unannounced Droid Maxx 2, complete with Verizon’s LTE logo.
The company has already updated its Play Store listing to remove the offending screenshots, but not before they could be saved for posterity.
Verizon and Motorola’s Droid launch event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27. We’ll be on the ground in New York City for full coverage of the new phones – check back then to see what emerges.
