OnePlus prepares to stop accepting new registrations for OnePlus 2 invites

Unknown

Lately when we’ve been talking about OnePlus, our attention has been focused on the OnePlus X, gearing up (in all likelihood) to launch on October 29. But even with this new phone taking so much focus, we’re still following the story of the OnePlus 2, as the flagship continues to reach new users. And in spite of that brief period of wide-open sales, getting your hand on a OnePlus 2 continues to require an invite code. Those aren’t going away for good anytime soon, but there’s still about to be an important shift in how you go about getting that invite, as OnePlus announces plans to put an end to its reservation system.
Right now, if you want to get a OnePlus 2 invite, you can enter your name on the manufacturer’s reservation list. When new invites become available, the company uses names on this list to start handing them out. But that’s coming to an end on October 22, as OnePlus stops accepting new reservations.
The company’s stated rationale is that it wants to guarantee that everyone on that list has a shot at getting an invite, and the best way to make sure that happens is to freeze the list and really start working through it; OnePlus says that OnePlus 2 production has reached the rate where it feels able to make real progress on hooking registered users up with their own chance to purchase the smartphone.
Even with registration closing, new invites will still be circulating, as shoppers get their own invite codes to hand out to friends or distribute as they see fit. But if you don’t want to leave your shot at an invite to the kindness of a stranger, visit the sign-up page now and register your name while you’ve still got a chance.
