Market analysts say high-end, costly products like the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro did Xiaomi more harm than good, failing to gain traction in budget-focused China. But if the Asian OEM plans to pursue its long overdue American dream next year, it may need something flashier than the arguably attractive yet decidedly low-profile Redmi 2 or Mi 4c.
Enter the Mi 5 flagship, expected to break cover for many months now, and possibly delayed on account of Qualcomm’s sluggishness to make up for its catastrophic Snapdragon 810 mistake. Rumor is the SD820 could be ready for primetime at last in January, just one month after the purported formal introduction of the Mi 5.
If the highly anticipated Mi 4 sequel indeed comes out on December 3, it’ll probably miss the Western Christmas sales extravaganza, instead aiming for a domestic commercial debut as close as possible to the February 8 Chinese New Year.
Interestingly, one of the semi-credible local equivalents to @evleaks claims Qualcomm will take the wraps off and fully detail the Snapdragon 820 SoC on November 20, which might permit the Xiaomi Mi 5 to go on sale as early as December.
Aside from the blazing fast and, hopefully, cucumber cool new processor, the Mi 5 should also be one of the world’s first phones to adopt ClearForce technology. Developed by biometrics specialist Synaptics, this is essentially 3D Touch for Androids, enabling pressure sensitive screen functionality on all of tomorrow’s Google-powered heroes, including the Samsung Galaxy S7.
