How ironic is it that Redmond rolled out build 10586.29 of its newest mobile Windows iteration specifically to take care of minor bugs and performance issues yielded by previous software updates, and the system refurbishment effort in turn gave birth to more severe stability glitches?
Ironic, as well as sad for Microsoft fans who had rightfully hoped they’d get a 100 percent reliable pre-loaded OS on their otherwise sizzling hot Lumia 950 and 950 XL. Granted, things aren’t as messed up as an avalanche of disheartened Microsoft Community posts seems to suggest.
In fact, as far as we can tell, the vast majority of 950-series owners has been able to enjoy all of the latest Windows 10 Mobile update’s maintenance fixes without bumping into fresh software flaws. Meanwhile, the plagued minority continues to encounter one or several of three big problems, including “pesky low storage notifications”, the actual update “appearing to get stuck at 0%”, and the update not being offered in the first place.
In order to provide a satisfying, universal patch, MS has decided to temporarily “unpublish the 10586.29 update for Windows 10 Mobile from our public update servers.” Sounds like the right call, no matter how few users are affected by the malfunctions, and how you can simply choose to ignore the “bothersome”, fake low storage messages.
For pending OS or apps updates, the short-term solution is to plug your phone into a charger and just wait while it does its thing. Hopefully, not for long.
