Android Pay gets ready to start loyalty program with Coca-Cola

Unknown
The arrival of Android Pay isn’t without a little controversy: it’s harder to use the card of your choice, and you’re forced to use a secure lock screen on your phone. But progress can’t exist without a few growing pains along the way, and Google’s committed to seeing Android Pay evolve into a secure payment system users can enjoy for years to come. Pay’s not just about simple money-for-goods-and-services transactions, though, and today we hear a little about what’s next for Android Pay, as Google exec Sridhar Ramaswamy talks about forthcoming loyalty programs.
Google is planning to start this loyalty system with Coca-Cola, with the company tracking Coke-family purchases made through things like the company’s NFC-equipped vending machines. Android Pay users would be able to accrue points that could then be redeemed for free or discounted beverages in the future.
We still haven’t heard full details about how this all might work – would loyalty points be constrained to deals on future Android Pay transactions, or could they also be redeemed separately, maybe through Coke’s own app for promotional merchandise?
And beyond Coke, who else is lined up with an Android Pay loyalty deal of their own? We haven’t learned who just yet, but Ramaswamy makes it sound like a formal announcement of this program could be right around the corner, so all that juicy info may be arriving soon.
