Both new Nexus phones take a page from Motorola’s playbook with camera-launch gestures

Unknown
Maybe more than any other major Android OEM, Motorola’s managing to walk the fine line between phones that are true to their stock-Android roots and those that deliver value to their manufacturer’s brand through some smartly implemented software tweaks. One of those we’ve come to expect from Motorola phones has been a quick-launch gesture for a handset’s camera through a couple flicks of the wrist. Well, while Motorola may have sat this year’s round of Nexus phones out, its influence still lives on, as we get word that both new LG and Huawei Nexus models have picked up this same twist-for-camera trick.
While the feature hasn’t picked up much attention so far, it’s one that Qualcomm confirmed in a press releaseback when both phones debuted late last month, highlighting the ability as one granted by the Context Core in these phones’ Snapdragon SoCs. Now with reviewers starting to get their hands on the new Nexus phones, the mode’s presence has been confirmed, configurable through system settings.
This gives the new Nexus phones a second way to quickly access their cameras, in addition to double-tapping the power button. When you don’t want to miss capturing that perfect scene, we suppose the more ways to quickly access the camera, the better.
