It seems that Apple’s next wearable could be the “Apple Ring”

Unknown

No this is not April for you to think the headline is rather off. We’ve followed a particular wearable in a trade show a few years ago that promised to bring smart features to a ring, and it sadly turned out to be a dud. We don’t blame them for trying though, as technology even on smartwatches today can be rather archaic, but you know what happens when Apple follows on that same idea.

Today we discover a new patent application from Apple for a smart ring. If you thought reading notifications on a watch was cumbersome, a ring would only make things worse, unless there’s an added value. The patent hints to the ring being able to detect what you’re writing by following the motion of your hand, so this could actually lead to a cool new feature. We also see that a microphone is being considered, in addition to a possible touchpad or touchscreen to help with other smart features.

Apple’s argument in the patent is that a smart ring could serve users during times of fatigue from using their other gadgets, though that’s still hard to picture. Just remember Apple is famous for patenting everything and not launching most of it, so don’t expect this to happen any time soon.
