Microsoft’s latest hardware is just days away from setting out into the public, but a little bread and butter action comes first. After all, Microsoft has the word “soft” in its name. Its ubiquitous Office software has gotten around better than its smartphones. And as we’ve found out in a joint press release with ASUS, the going around for Microsoft has just gotten even better.
The two companies broadened an existing patent agreement between ASUS’s phones and tablets (and phone-tablet hybrids) running Android and Microsoft’s software and services. One of the marquee outcomes from this agreement is the pre-loading of Microsoft Office apps onto future ASUS devices.
ASUS has already been using other document editing and cloud storage software — some of it, its own — for its devices. It’s unclear what the fate of those will be moving forward.
