Xiaomi Mi 5 tipped for February 20 announcement with 4GB RAM in tow

A price tag and a release date. It’s essentially all that’s missing for the Xiaomi Mi 5 puzzle to fully come together, following an onslaught of rumors dating back to September. Yes, four months ago is when all this started, yet the long overdue Mi 4 sequel continues to lurk in the shadows, waiting patiently for Qualcomm’sSnapdragon 820 processor to be ready for primetime.
Several November, December and, it’s safe to say, January ETAs were missed by the purported Quad HD 5.2-inch Android, which may ultimately break cover dangerously close to Samsung’s Galaxy S7 introduction.
Namely, on February 20, according to Chinese tipsters, which then expect the Mi 5 to almost instantly go on sale in China. Remember, the 2016 Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona just two days later, and prior to the trade show, both the GS7 and LG G5 are tipped to go official.
Typically focused on its domestic and neighboring markets first and foremost, Xiaomi might be looking to extend its reach towards Europe and North America at last this year, so perhaps the Mi 5 will itself crop up at the MWC for a glitzy public debut opposite two of the industry’s highly anticipated global heavyweights.
As far as retail costs go, the most recent speculation falls in the $400 to $450 range, which would be quite sensible with SD820 muscle, 4GB RAM, 16 and 8MP cameras, fingerprint recognition, and a massive 3,600 mAh battery on deck.
Those specifications have made the headlines a number of times lately, and they’re now “confirmed” by a premature GearBest listing that may or may not have been legit, but it’s been pulled in the meantime.
