Sony Xperia Z, Z1, Z2, Z3, Z3 Compact With Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

Unknown

Obviously, only selected Xperia mobile devices will be upgraded to Android M, but the question is: which one will get to the list? If you have an Xperia Z device, you’ll be curious to know if you’ll receive the official software upgrade, so we’ll tell you which models are eligible to get the technical preview.
The Japanese tech company posted on its website the models that will run on the upcoming operating system, but you must know that Android M for Xperia mobile devices is not situated within the same API levels as the Nexuses, but at least the users have the possibility to play with “Marshmallow”.

According to Sony Mobile’s Developer World website, the API levels are still at Lollipop MR1, so the users can take a look at the M Developer Preview from a platform perspective.

The list of Xperia Z models which were allowed to test the technical preview of Android M are:
– Xperia Z3 Plus
– Xperia Z4 Tablet / Wi-Fi
– Xperia Z3
– Xperia Z3 Compact
– Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
– Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet
– Xperia Z1
– Xperia Z1 Compact
– Xperia Z Ultra
– Xperia Z
– Xperia ZL
– Xperia Tablet Z.

Models like the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3 Plus were included on the listed of eligible phones that will get the Android M update because Original Equipment Manufacturers offer software support for their devices for exactly 18 months, so these mentioned phones will reach their end of life cycle in March, next year.
The Xperia Z2 models will be able to get this final software upgrade because their life cycle will end by the end of 2015. However, since the Z2 smartphone came in April 2014, the phone is at the limit, as it will end its life cycle in October 2015, but most likely, Android M will arrive sooner.
Fortunately for the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z models, Sony decided to extend software support up to Android 5.1 Lollipop, even if they already reached the end of life cycle.
Android M will have the interface of Lollipop, but it will benefit from a lot of bug fixes and improvements.
